Science

The National Curriculum for Science aims to ensure all pupils:

  • Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific areas of biology, chemistry and physics.
  • Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
  • Are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

Through studying CUSP Science, pupils become more inquisitive scientists, developing their knowledge and understanding of different topics. Furthermore, using their science learning beyond the lessons, linking to prior knowledge and experiences. These topics will include:

  • Working scientifically (Learning different skills-identifying and classifying, pattern seeking, research, observing and fair, comparative testing)
  • Plants
  • Animals, including humans
  • Everyday materials
  • Seasonal changes
  • Living things and their habitats
  • Rocks
  • Light
  • Forces and Magnets
  • States of matter
  • Sound
  • Electricity
  • Earth and space
  • Evolution and inheritance

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Science at Murrow Primary Academy doesn’t stop in the classroom! We take part in:

  • School trips to science fairs

  • Outdoor investigations in our school grounds.

  • National Science Week celebrations.

Our goal is to inspire every child to see the wonder in the world — and perhaps even spark a lifelong love of science!
